Catherine Carpenter's company, Folk of London, has been nominated for the Elle Decoration British Design Awards 2013.

Catherine graduated with an Inchbald Diploma in 2012 and is clearly out there making her name, the voting is still ongoing (Best British Product Nominees) so please add your support, check the website http://thebritishdesignawards.com

Also nominated is Tracy Kendall (Best British Pattern Nominees), for her wallpaper 'Another Colour'. Tracy is a regular lecturer at Inchbald, so again please support her nomination.

The new Tollgard Design Group showrooms at Grosvenor Waterside opened their doors last night as Staffan and Monique launched a new phase for the design group and a new light 'Belle' designed for Contardi by Staffan.

The showrooms host a wonderful collection of furniture and materials expressed across room sets though double and single height spaces. The materials and finishes are sophisticated and juxtapose reclaimed wood, (beautiful grey weathered boards), with sleek stone, brushed metal with fine plaster surfaces, leather, wool and a great selection of accessories and artwork.

The design studio overlooks the showroom from a wonderful mezzanine level which will be staffed by many Inchbald graduates who it has been my privilege to teach - it was great to see them all so excited about this new phase for the company.

Congratulations to all.

Tuesday 18 June 2013

Interior Design students are moving towards the exhibition in July, so hard at work - inspiration and experiences have been on hand from speakers,  Alidad, Mark Gillette, Kit Kemp, Staffan and Monique Tollgard who all of their time most generously.
Backed up by Imraan Ismail, Nicole Fetcher, Liz Williams, Tove Joneret and Elspeth Abdy Collins - all recent graduates who shared Inchbald times with this years class, many thanks to all.

1882 and all that

1882, Emily Johnson’s ceramics house, is showing a new collection at the Victoria and Albert Museum shop. Designers include Max Lamb, Mr. Brainwash, Fort Standard and as the above example shows myself. The showcase lasts until May 2013 and 1882’s mission is to “champion inventively designed ceramic products from lighting to domestic ware whilst employing the manufacturing heritage of North Staffordshire and promoting the British ceramic industry”

Claire De Rouen

Claire De Rouen, who sadly died recently, was a colleague and a friend but more importantly an original, a one off. Her knowledge of Photography and Fashion was as legendary as her style.

Her legacy, Clair de Rouen Books at 121-125 Charing Cross Road, (First Floor) showcases new and classic talent in both fields and is a must for anyone involved or interested in the creative arts.

Claire will be sadly missed by all who knew her - the Charing Cross Road will not be the same without her - the shop will continue to trade under the watchful eyes of those she trained.

Giray Sahin, principal of Enarch Arcitects and Inchbald Tutor shares with us one of his many projects. The Matchbox is a mix use scheme in the heart of the financial district in Istanbul. As a dynamic contributor to the Inchbald year course Giray is a great asset as a tutor. His experience is broad, teaching design studio, CAD programs and providing opportunities for work experience for Inchbald students who have worked on a variety of his projects including a Design Award winning scheme for sustainable housing.
